Renewable Energy

Solar Power

We invest in solar panels across all 14 branches to reduce our carbon footprint and help mitigate the effects of climate change. Our panels generate significant energy savings each year while reducing CO₂ emissions across the business.

Fuel Efficiency

Our multi-temperature, state-of-the-art fleet delivers fresh, frozen, chilled and ambient products in a single delivery – minimising mileage and CO₂ emissions.

Routing software and telematics help us plan the most fuel-efficient routes and support optimum driving standards. Chiller and freezer doors are always kept closed when not in use to conserve energy, and all drivers are scored on driving performance.

Electric Warehouse Vehicles

We've converted all warehouse counterbalance and power pallet trucks from gas-powered to electric, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions annually.

Cloud Computing

We've migrated to cloud-based services using Microsoft Azure, which has committed to being carbon negative by 2030. By shifting to cloud computing, we rely less on local hardware and physical machines – reducing energy use and environmental impact.

Sustainable Menus

Plant-Based and Vegan Options

We offer a growing range of vegan and plant-based products, giving caterers sustainable, ethical and healthy alternatives for their menus. Meat-free innovation is tasty, creative and constantly evolving – presenting exciting opportunities for our restaurant and takeaway customers.

Healthier Catering

JJ Foodservice collaborates with initiatives like the Hertfordshire Responsible Food Award and London's Healthier Catering Commitment, helping independent caterers offer healthier, more sustainable meal choices.

Ethical Sourcing

In line with our Social Responsibility and Ethical Trading Policy, we are committed to sourcing the best quality certified meat, including British-grown, organic and halal products.

We also invest in Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification across our branches for a range of fish products, and we sell organic ranges to help customers meet Soil Association standards.

Biodegradable Packaging

We're committed to reducing our impact on the environment through sustainable packaging:

✅ Our packaging range offers biodegradable and compostable options

✅ Eco-packaging sales continue to grow year on year

✅ Choose from a wide range including boxes, cups, trays, cutlery and bowls

✅ We have eliminated all single-use plastic from our range

Reducing Food Waste

JJ Foodservice has partnered with FareShare, the UK's largest food redistribution charity, pairing every branch with a local FareShare depot to make sure surplus food goes to the places that need it the most.

Our contributions have helped deliver thousands of free meals to vulnerable communities – and in 2025 we were recognised with FareShare's inaugural Recognition Award at the Unitas Connect Awards.

Supporting Communities

Volunteering

Our Volunteering Scheme offers every employee one fully paid day each month to support the charity of their choice – helping to increase our positive impact across local communities.

Charities supported include The Felix Project, FareShare and Age UK. Our teams are regularly raising money and volunteering with local charities.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Having a diverse and inclusive workforce is essential for sustainability – it helps ensure our solutions are fair, unbiased and effective for everyone.

JJ is a founding supporter of Women in Wholesale (WiW), helping to champion diversity in UK foodservice wholesale, and a proud supporter of the Women in Food & Drink Awards.

We also support Women in the Food Industry and smaller brand start-ups through educational "Welcome to Foodservice" study tours, designed to help new businesses understand and access the sector.

We aspire to be an inclusive, friendly workplace. Our HR team openly offers free mentoring and CV-writing tips, and we actively work with job centres, schools and communities to help people into employment.

Great Place to Work

JJ Foodservice is a certified Great Place to Work™. This recognition is based entirely on feedback from our team and reflects the trust, belonging and positive culture we've built.

Everyday Common Sense

Little changes can make a big impact. As a business, we're always mindful of the small things that contribute to reducing our carbon footprint:

✅ Turning lights off when not in use

✅ Offering recycling bins for all plastics and cardboard

✅ Turning machines off when not in use

✅ Recycling packaging for collection customers

✅ Encouraging suppliers to remove or minimise plastics

✅ Incentivising colleagues to cycle to work
